Small Animals

The small animal service at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Camden (UVTHC) operates a general small animal veterinary practice open to the public for all routine veterinary services, including preventative care (vaccinations, heartworm/intestinal worm prevention plans, neutering; geriatric health checks), and investigation and treatment of a wide range of medical and surgical problems. Backed by a world-class anaesthesia service, on-site pathology laboratory, high quality imaging equipment & staff (digital xrays, ultrasound, MRI), and ready access to specialist advice in the Sydney campus, the service manages simple to difficult cases, including more complex second opinion cases.
As well as providing a top class general practice, the small animal service provides an invaluable teaching experience for our final year (Year 5) veterinary interns. Clients attending the service will often have a brief initial consultation with one of our interns followed by a thorough examination by one of our experienced supervising veterinarians, who will oversee all veterinary activities performed at the hospital. This gives our interns a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the added benefit of having all their findings verified by our experienced clinicians. We appreciate our client’s involvement in this process, aiding in training the next generation of veterinary practitioners.
Our small animal service also provides an after-hours emergency service, and is affiliated with the teaching hospital at Camperdown, Sydney (UVTHS), which offers 24-hour intensive care monitoring and specialist clinicians across all services. Limited patient transport into the UVTHS is possible during working hours.
