Small Animals

The small animal service at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Camden (UVTHC) operates:

  • a general small animal veterinary practice
  • vaccinations
  • heartworm and worming treatments
  • desexing
  • geriatric health checks
  • wide range of all medical and surgical problems
  • second opinion cases
  • after-hours emergency service

These services are backed by:

  • specialist anaesthesia service
  • on-site specialist pathology laboratory
  • high quality imaging equipment & staff (digital xrays, ultrasound, MRI)
  • specialist dermatology service
  • ready access to specialist advice in the Sydney campus

As well as providing a top class general practice, the small animal service provides an invaluable teaching experience for our final year (Year 5) veterinary interns. Clients attending the service will often have a brief initial consultation with one of our interns followed by a thorough examination by one of our experienced supervising veterinarians, who will oversee all veterinary activities performed at the hospital. This gives our interns a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the added benefit of having all their findings verified by our experienced clinicians. We appreciate our client’s involvement in this process, aiding in training the next generation of veterinary practitioners.
