Valentine Charlton Cat Centre
The Valentine Charlton Cat Centre is a state-of-the-art, purpose-built veterinary facility with on-site specialists in a variety of disciplines including feline medicine, surgery, diagnostic imaging and pathology.
It was made possible by a significant bequest to the Centre for Veterinary Education from the estate of the late Valentine Charlton, private and corporate donations through the Veterinary Science Foundation, and dollar-for-dollar funding from the University of Sydney.
The Centre has been designed to specifically address issues relating to the unique nature of feline practice. It is a showcase for ‘best’ clinical feline practice and the clinical instruction of veterinary undergraduates in feline medicine.
The feline medicine unit is run by two academic feline medicine specialists – Associate Professor Vanessa Barrs and Associate Professor Julia Beatty.
The Centre provides Feline Referral Service, which is the busiest in the hospital and continues to prosper. Facilities include chemotherapy and a nuclear medicine unit for the treatment of cats with hyperthyroidism. Our experienced team deals with very challenging cases and provides our patients with high level care.
The Valentine Charlton Cat Centre has a key role in providing internationally renowned excellence in feline clinical research and enables the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Sydney to act as a strong advocate for cat health.
