Photography and filming

Photographer Rhys Holland

Filming and still photography is allowed on campus and is subject to the University’s filming policy (PDF), which states that each filming/photography event must be in keeping with the University’s Strategic Plan, and not cause disruption to students or staff. Filming in outdoor areas and public thoroughfares is permitted only after hours (outside the University’s core operational hours of 7am to 7pm), or on the weekend.

If you wish to film on campus you must complete an application form which can be obtained from University Venues. Your application will be assessed for suitability and safety.

If your request to film is granted, University Venues will provide you with a quote for hiring the venue and/or other location costs. Filming and photography are generally discouraged in outdoor spaces during core teaching times as it can cause disruption to students.

Wedding photography

Table set up in the Great Hall

Wedding photography and wedding ceremonies/receptions can take place only at the weekend during semester, and in specific areas.

Popular locations for wedding photography are:

  • The Quadrangle lawns 1 to 4 (inside the Quadrangle)
  • The Front Lawn (in front of the Quadrangle, bordered by University Place)
  • The Quadrangle cloisters (inside the Quadrangle)
  • The Botany Lawn (beside the Macleay Building)

These spaces are charged out at an hourly rate – between $88 and $242. Contact University Venues to check availability and request an application form. To ensure wedding parties are spaced out and there is as little overlap as possible, bookings must be made prior to the day of the event.

If you haven't booked, you may be asked to move on, or to pay the booking fee on the spot if you are permitted to stay.
