Below is brief list of some of the main Manual Handling initiatives undertaken by various University departments over 2001 and 2002.

These projects have had varying degrees of involvement from RMO and external OHS consultants.

Security Attendants
  • training of Attendants in Charge in RMO Manual handling course
  • establishment of multiple safe work method statements for noted risky work tasks (2002)
Grounds Department
  • refresher task training for staff in safe manual handling techniques relevant to grounds work
  • development of Induction Pack with RMO including video of task training session for future induction of new Grounds staff (2002)
Anatomy CCHS
  • Manual Handling audit to review work practices and equipment and suggest risk control strategies (2002)

Lab Animal Services

  • re-design of tool to open animal water bottles in consultation with FMO trades department after noted injury risk (2002)
  • staff task training in general animal house tasks (2001)
Narrabri Plant Breeding Institute and Orange Campus
  • supervisor training in RMO Manual Handling training course (2002)
Sydney College of the Arts
  • training of Technical Officers in RMO Manual Handling course
  • allocation of specific funding for noted OHS projects (2001-2002)
Maths and Statistics
  • assessment and redesign of exam handling procedures, exam sorting area and assignment collection boxes. Involved equipment purchase and equipment modification (2001)
