Finger Gym Fine Motor Skills School Readiness Program uses fun and hands on fine motor–based activities to help children become more independent in the classroom and assist them in meeting their developmental milestones. This 12-week program is delivered in schools by University of Sydney volunteers. Teacher professional learning and parent information sessions are available in support of the program.

Key learning outcomes:

  • Independent work at school
  • Confidence and motivation in completing writing/fine motor skills tasks
  • Participation in class

80 minutes (2 x 30 minutes session + 20 minutes setup and pack up) per session, twice a week.


Motor skills

motor skills

mOTor skills is an individualised program developing students’ fine and gross motor skills through classroom-based activities. This program is provided in partnership with the Faculty of Health Sciences and is an in-school clinical placement for our Occupational Therapy students.

Key learning outcomes:

  • Independent work at school
  • Motor development skills as measured by Goal Attainment Scaling (GAS) assessment
  • Participation in class

Speech pathology

An individualised program developing students’ speech and literacy skills through classroom-based activities. This program is provided in partnership with the Faculty of Health Sciences and is an in-school clinical placement for our Speech Pathology students.

  • Improvement in students' participation in class
  • Increased confidence in completing school tasks
  • More independence in students' learning in the classroom
