Healing our Spirit Worldwide

We are proud to co-host The Eighth Gathering in Sydney in November
Indigenous peoples from across Australia and around the world will gather to celebrate Indigenous culture and community.

Healing our Spirit Worldwide – The Eighth Gathering will bring together Indigenous peoples to celebrate the power of Indigenous knowledge and wisdom, share stories with pride and purpose, and harness the spirit of community.

Co-hosted by the University of Sydney and the Healing Foundation, The Eighth Gathering will be held at Sydney’s International Convention Centre from 26 to 29 November 2018.

The Gathering aims to foster relationships, understandings and new opportunities, with a focus on the overarching theme: ‘Our knowledge, our wisdom, our promise - for our grandchildren’s grandchildren’.

It will explore the connections necessary to support individuals and communities, promote their agency, and look forward to sustainable, proud and confident Indigenous futures.

The program will feature keynotes from local and international Indigenous experts, along with presentations on a diverse range of topics related to Indigenous healing from around the world, including:

  • Healing and Health
  • Land and Language
  • Learning, Education and Employment
  • Lore, Law and Justice
  • Our Future

Free activities and performances will be available for attendees and the public – including dedicated sessions for children, young people and Elders.

“The Gathering presents an opportunity to involve our community – both on campus and in broader society – in the issues and concerns facing Indigenous people in this country.”
Professor Juanita Sherwood, Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Indigenous Strategy and Services)
