Courses and learning modules

Anti-Racism Pledge module (staff only)

One of the ways we can individually contribute towards elimination of racism is to complete the Anti-Racism Pledge – an online learning module designed to generate self-reflection, and to empower staff to commit to actions to reduce discrimination.

Confident Conversations About Race and Racism MOOC

Racism remains one of the greatest scourges on society, here in Australia and globally. Yet many of us are not confident in our abilities to recognise, understand, and take appropriate action against racism. Delivered by Gabrielle Russell from the National Centre for Cultural Comperence, this course will guide you to a better understanding of these complex issues and importantly provide a way to navigate through to take an anti-racist stance.

Engaging with Civility module (students only)

An online module which includes interactive scenarios to build understanding of the Student Charter and expectations at university, including respectful protest and cultural safety.

Racism Runs Deep module (staff and students only)

An online module developed by the National Centre for Cultural Competence. Staff can complete the Racism Runs Deep module as part of their Cultural Competence online learning.

Staff can access essential resources and guidance on the Teaching@Sydney Diversity webpage. These resources are designed to help you understand the diverse needs of our student population, reduce barriers to learning, and create an inclusive classroom environment.

Freedom of expression for students

This guide for students provides practical advice to help University of Sydney students more clearly understand their rights and responsibilities around freedom of expression at university, and the expectations of behaviour set out by the Student Charter.

National Centre for Cultural Competence

The National Centre for Cultural Competence offers a range of online modules, courses, workshops and resources to all Australians to develop their cultural competence and responsiveness to empower them to make respectful, ethical, and effective choices in intercultural settings.
