Mardi Gras Parade applications

Join us on Saturday 5 March 2022

The world-renowned Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade is fast approaching! We invite staff and students from our community to get involved. Our theme for this year is ‘Enlighten, unite, shine bright’.

Update (February 2022): Applications have now closed.

If you’re interested in participating in the parade, please fill out your details in the form below to let us know why you're keen and we'll be in touch soon.

Please note that number of places are limited. We would like to give students and staff who identify as LGBTIQ the first opportunity to secure a place.

Before you start your application, please read the below information about required commitment.

Required commitment

Rehearsals

You will need to attend 3 dance rehearsal sessions. Each rehearsal will take around an hour. Don't stress if you're not an expert on the dancefloor – we're putting together a simple choreographed dance so everyone can be involved.

Schedule:

  • Tues 15 Feb, 12-1pm
  • Wed 23 Feb, 12-1pm
  • Tues 1 Mar, 5-6pm

Rehearsal venue: Sydney Uni Sports and Aquatic Centre, Basketball Show Courts

On the day

On 5 March, you’ll need to arrive at 2pm at Moore Park to collect your costume and for a final rehearsal.

Walk (and dance) with the University of Sydney float for the duration of the Parade. This will involve walking one lap of the SCG and then performing the dance routine while crossing through the centre of the field. A large proportion of time will be spent in the Marshalling area. The parade is estimated to start at 6pm and finish around 10.30pm.
