Five minutes with Manasa Marasani

Master of Architectural Science (High Performance Buildings)
As Semester 2 at the University begins, we catch up with international student Manasa Marasani to find out her hopes for studying at Sydney.

What is your background and why did you come to the University?

I am an international student from Bangalore, India, enrolled in a Masters in Architectural Science: High Performance Buildings at the University. I completed my undergraduate education in Mechanical Engineering and worked for two years at W.S Atkins, a company providing design solutions in construction.

What are you most looking forward to about studying at Sydney University?

I’m most looking forward to the type of radical thinking and environment where creative ideas are nourished. Not to mention making friends from all over the world and learning from the best professors in the best facilities available.

Why did you choose to study High Performance Buildings?

I was exposed to this field through my work experience. It was astonishing to learn how much energy consumption was purely devoured by internal environments. The work we did reduced the power load and aimed for a low carbon footprint. This idea of making a difference and contributing to sustainability got me interested in the field. I decided to enrol in this course to make myself more competent in this area.

A good teacher is one that can help get across the context and theory, while connecting their students to practical examples so they can become more well-rounded. They do not limit their students' thought by what is printed in textbooks.

What, in your experience, makes a good teacher?

A good teacher is one that can help get across the context and theory, while connecting their students to practical examples so they can become more well-rounded. They do not limit their students' thought by what is printed in textbooks.

Describe in five words your first impression of the University:

Amalgamation of modern and ancient.

What do you like to do when you’re not studying?

When I am not studying, you will find me socialising with friends, going for a run and most importantly, exploring new places. I have an inherent love for nature and always push myself to try out new experiences and learn about various cultures.
