Biographical details

Matt Withers completed his PhD within the Department of Political Economy at the University of Sydney. His research addresses temporary labour migration and economic development in the Asia-Pacific region, specifically exploring the impact of remittances and gendered migration dynamics in Sri Lanka. Having developed a multi-scalar critique of migration-development during his PhD, Matt’s more recent research has focused on conceptualising migrant precarity, promoting rights-based approaches to migration governance and advocating for ‘decent care’ policies to complement the International Labour Organisation’s decent work agenda.
