Biographical details
Before joining the Department in July 2013, Anthea was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Centre for Critical and Cultural Studies (CCCS) at the University of Queensland. She has published widely in feminist media and cultural studies, including Mediating Australian Feminism (2008), Single Women in Popular Culture (2012), and Celebrity and the Feminist Blockbuster (2016).
Anthea has taught English, Women's Studies, and Media and Cultural Studies at the University of New South Wales, Macquarie University, and the University of Queensland.She also has over 7 and a half years experience working in government, including as a ministerial policy advisor and senior policy officer.
Research interests
Gender and popular culture, celebrity, popular feminism, postfeminism, reality television, new media, fandom, feminist literary and cultural theory, popular fiction, literary reception, and cultural policy.

Current projects
Anthea’s most recent book is Celebrity and the Feminist Blockbuster: The Changing Face of Celebrity Feminism (Palgrave Macmillan). She is also working on the first study of postfeminism in its specifically Australian manifestations, with Dr Margaret Henderson from the University of Queensland. This work, Postfeminism in Context: The Australian Postfeminist Imaginary, will be published by Routledge in 2018. As part of her recently awarded Australian Research Council Discovery grant, she is also working on a sole-authored monograph on Germaine Greer's contribution to public understandings of feminism, also under contract with Routledge.
