Services to support you during your studies

,

We offer a variety of opportunities to get involved in our community, including mentoring, social events, health and wellbeing initiatives, and student leadership programs.

Get involved

Kickstart your Facultry of Arts and Social Sciences journey with our Welcome and Mentoring Programs. In your first weeks, connect with fellow students and staff, get study-ready, and enjoy social events on campus. Our programs cater to domestic, international, Dalyell Scholars, Equity, and students over 25.

Take a study break to meet a furry friend. This program, often held with events like RUOK? Day, offers stress relief and connection. Meet therapy dogs on campus once a semester and experience the positive impact animals have on our well-being, especially in a busy university environment.

Our grant programs let you curate engagement events for students, enhancing cross-cultural connections and contributing to academic, social, or professional success. Gain practical experience, mentorship, and a notable resume achievement. Grants allow you to design innovative engagement ideas, focusing on community building and shared interests.

Expand your resume and make an impact by working on real-world policy formation and law reform projects. Contribute to research papers and government submissions under university academics’ guidance. This enriches your academic experience and has a tangible societal impact by addressing policy and law reform issues.

Expand your experience, skills, and network through our Faculty’s student leadership opportunities. Get involved as a Peer Mentor, Mentor Leader, Student Partner, Media Crew Member, or Ambassador.

Peer Mentor: Part of the Welcome and Mentoring Program, provide essential support and guidance to first-year students in the first weeks of their new semester.

“My experience as a FASS Student Mentor has been a fulfilling and exciting journey. Being part of this program does more than simply provide first-year students with assistance; it also fosters their academic and personal growth. As a student mentor, I’ve not only grown in confidence but also developed strong leadership skills that have challenged me to step beyond my comfort zone.” - Shalee Boey, Bachelor of Arts and Advanced Studies (Digital Cultures)

Mentor Leader: After being a Peer Mentor for a semester, join the team in co-designing and delivering the Welcome and Mentoring Program.

“Having experienced a couple of mentoring programs at this university, getting the opportunity to contribute to the running of the program and building on the work of past Mentor Leaders has been a genuinely enjoyable and rewarding experience. I particularly enjoyed working with the new mentors and contributing to the delivery of Welcome Day and the extended welcome events.” - Michaela Lee, Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law

Student Partner: Grow your leadership and professional skills through this year-long volunteer program. You will partner with staff to amplify the student voice and shape opportunities for your cohort.

“A student partner is a voice of the student body that bridges the relationships among students, academia, and staff. Besides personal growth, the most rewarding part of being a student partner is the opportunity to contribute positively to the School where your abilities and skills will be used and further developed. The Student Partner Program provides endless opportunities to student partners from event organisation to academic opportunities that will enrich scholastic experience.” - Sam Bacoy, Master of Economics

Media Crew:
Expand your media knowledge by getting hands-on experience working with print and digital technologies, while receiving guidance and feedback to hone your skills.

Faculty Ambassador: Paid opportunity to bring your student voice and skills to drive key Faculty projects, programs and initiatives.

“Being part of a team that champions inclusivity and student engagement is something I’m incredibly proud of, and the best part? You get to build lasting friendships and make a difference along the way. If you are thinking about getting involved, go for it! You’ll grow personally and professionally, make lasting friendships, and help shape the student community.” - Era Cairns, Bachelor of Arts and Advanced Studies (Politics and International Relations)
