The Sydney University Postgraduate Representative Association (SUPRA) recently held their annual SUPRA Supervisor of the Year Awards and the Brain and Mind Centre is pleased to congratulate Professor Kay Double and Associate Professor Jo-An Occhipinti as recipients of this year’s honour. Professor Double also received the award in 2023.

One of the most enjoyable and rewarding parts of my job is mentoring many fantastic young researchers. This award is particularly special to me as it results from a nomination by the students.

That's three consecutive years that Brain and Mind Centre researchers have received this award. Past recipients include Associate Professor Susanna Park and Associate Professor James Mac Shine.

The SUPRA Supervisor of the Year Award recognises supervisors of all postgraduate research students, from master’s by research to PhDs and other doctoral candidates. The award also acknowledges the efforts and contributions made by supervisors in both support and nurture.

"I am honoured to receive this award. The transdisciplinary research journey is particularly challenging, but hugely rewarding. I learn as much from my PhD candidates as they do from me, so the most important thing I can do as a supervisor is to offer them is a safe space where our collective knowledge can be freely exchanged, debated, and challenged to foster innovation," Associate Professor Jo-An Occhipinti said.
