How to successfully apply for a full-time MBA

Make your MBA application stand out
Applying for a Master of Business Administration (MBA) is often a long and intensive process. We've put together four steps to help you successfully secure your spot in our full-time MBA.

From researching which MBA is right for you, to preparing your application and attending an interview, it’s important to tell us what sets you apart from other candidates. Follow the below four steps to help secure your place in our full-time Master of Business Administration (MBA)

1. Find out if our full-time MBA is the right fit for you

Our full-time MBA is unique in its offering, providing far more than the fundamentals of business. Like most MBAs, our program offers a deep understanding of finance, marketing and strategy, but you’ll also learn how to lead teams in a digital world, harness big data, leverage the power of creativity and explore the nature of complex systems. You will also have the option to undertake an internship.

From being resilient and adaptable, to progressive and influential, find out what we look for in an MBA applicant

You will also need to check if you meet the necessary admission criteria to be considered for entry.

2. Tell us what sets you apart through your statement of motivation

With applicants from across the globe who all have unique experiences, we want to know how you stand out from the crowd and gain a deeper understanding of why our full-time MBA is for you.

That’s why we ask all applicants to write a statement of motivation (maximum of two pages). This is your chance to tell us why you are the perfect fit for the program, what sets you apart from other candidates and how you will add value to your fellow cohort.

Below are some questions to cover in your statement of motivation:

  • What do you hope to achieve professionally and personally by completing the full-time MBA from the University of Sydney Business School?
  • What are your academic and professional achievements?
  • Are you involved in community and extracurricular activities?
  • What are your leadership qualities?
  • Have you received any awards and recognition?
  • What sets you apart from other candidates around the world?
  • How will you add value to the full-time MBA?

If you would like to be considered for a scholarship, please provide details of this in your statement of motivation.

3. Complete an application form

It’s now to time to complete your online application. For this you will need:

  • Your academic qualification details, for example, completion year and grade average.
  • Your employment history/professional details.
  • Your statement of motivation (see above).

4. Prepare for your interview

If your application has been shortlisted, we’ll invite you to attend a selection interview. This is your chance to really shine and clearly explain your motivations to join our full-time MBA, and for us to make sure you are the right fit for the program.

It’s important that you are relaxed, authentic and self-aware throughout the interview. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask us any questions you may have and find out more about how our full-time MBA can help you achieve your goals.
