Working with business leaders and global organisations from around the world to address dynamic and multifaceted problems.
Interested? We’ve put together a list of reasons why the GEMBA might be right for you.
Our Global Executive MBA (GEMBA) is truly a global experience. As part of your studies, you will have the opportunity to travel all over the world and see first-hand the different styles of leadership taking place in several global organisations. Cohorts can currently expect to travel and study in places as varied as Europe, Israel and the United States, and receive an education experience that expands beyond just an Australian business landscape.
For alumnus, Terence Koo, the CFO of Drive.com.au, this global reach was one of the most persuasive reasons for his decision to study a GEMBA.
“The choice of educational partnerships and thought leaders from some of the best universities in the world was mind-blowing and provided exposure that you couldn't get within a purely Australian environment," said Koo.
The program brings together several individuals from different industries who have a wide range of practical and technical skills but want to learn more about how to be a transformational leader. Learning from the best in the world, you will discover how to be an effective leader, and learn to deal with problems and complexities that you may not otherwise have experienced in previous roles.
“I’ve been a GP for 15 years, but I found myself working for a large corporate, and I had no business experience or qualifications. As much as I was learning on the job, it was important to have framework and principles to run a business," said Dr Amandeep Hansra, General Practitioner and Director of Evermed Consulting.
The GEMBA's ranking amongst the world’s best, along with the University of Sydney’s global reputation, have brought students like Amandeep and Terence to the program.
In 2019, the University of Sydney Business School’s Global Executive MBA was ranked the best of its kind in Australia, by the Australian Financial Reviews BOSS Magazine MBA Rankings. The University of Sydney is also ranked equal 19th in the world for top universities (QS World Rankings 2024).
One of the key benefits for Amandeep was the diverse range of nationalities, and experiences, of her cohort.
“It was a small, hand-picked cohort,” said Amandeep. “We had local and international members of our cohort, we had people from all different industries including mining, banking and business. It was the first time I had studied with people who weren’t from healthcare.”
Terence Koo was struck by just how much the experiences of his cohort varied.
“Of about 20 students, less than half were from business, and none of us were from the same industry. The other half of the cohort were a great mixture of entrepreneurs, people from education and those from government. That allowed a true diversity of thought leadership and knowledge sharing.”
The program is also one of the few in Australia that aims for gender parity.
Designed for professionals who have 10+ years of experience in their respective industries, our Global Executive MBA aims to challenge each cohort by forcing them to step outside their comfort zones and look at issues they may never have previously experienced.
By putting you into global situations, you will grow personally and professionally and look at issues from a fresh perspective. You will learn how to do things differently.
The course is designed to work around those with an already busy schedule. It consists of a mix of self-directed online primers, a major strategic project and 5 x 2-week face-to-face residential blocks held about every 4 months over an 18-month period, from February to July.
