What to do this mid-semester break

Whether you’re on campus or remote, make the most of your break
While it’s important to use this time to catch up on some study, make sure to also find some time to relax, recharge and get ready to tackle the rest of semester. Here are some ideas to help you come back to classes feeling refreshed.

Get outdoors

The weather is actually predicted to be relatively dry, so make sure to enjoy the novelty of a sunny day and get out of the house. There are many beautiful natural spots in and around Sydney – whether you enjoy the beach, national parks, lakes or waterfalls, all are within easy reach of Sydney. Check out the NSW website for great ideas for things to do both in Sydney and throughout NSW if you’re able to get out of town for a few days.

If you happen to be a remote student, the same advice still applies. Here’s a list of outdoor activities that you can do no matter where you are - go get some fresh air!

Get some culture

Now that live entertainment is a thing again, why not get out and stimulate your brain in a non-study related way? Timeout Sydney has you covered with a great list of shows and art exhibits currently open in Sydney. And we can't finish this suggestion without mentioning that the 23rd Biennale of Sydney is currently on exhibit. Mid-semester break presents a great opportunity to see some of these mind-blowing installations in person, especially after the 22nd edition was forced online for well-remembered reasons.

Watch something

While you definitely should make some time for outdoor activities, chilling at home can be just as important for rest and recovery. With so many streaming services available, why not binge that series you’ve heard everyone talk about? If you’re finding it hard to decide what to watch, look no further than Rotten Tomatoes for a compilation of the best shows currently streaming – and where you can stream them.

Listen to something

On the same note, podcasts can be a great way to learn and be entertained at the same time, not to mention being a great way to pass the time while you catch up on things that may need to be done around the house. Timeout’s list of podcasts to listen to in 2022 is a good place to go for ideas, with great suggestions both for tried-and-true podcasts fans as well as those who are new to the medium.

Wondering how to listen? Spotify has a great range of podcasts that you can access for free, including those on the list above – no need for a premium account!
