5 burning questions worth asking at Info Day

Get the last minute advice you need to choose your course with confidence
You can’t beat face-to-face advice and getting the information you need, when you need it most, and all in one day. Here are your burning questions and where to find the answers on Info Day.

We understand your ATAR is not the only indicator of your abilities. If you find your ATAR isn’t competitive enough for entry, or you’ve missed out on applying for some of our admissions schemes earlier in the year, there are still options available to you.

Talk one-on-one with our support staff about the admission pathways and entry options that would be best for you and your unique situation, including the option to commence in one course and apply to transfer after your first year.

Attend the What if I don’t get in? Explore admission pathways into University talk to explore your options and visit us at the Admissions and Pathways hub in the Quadrangle.

It’s so easy to misunderstand how preferences work and to be worried that you’re going to somehow decrease your chances of getting into a course, or pick the wrong one.

If it’s reassurance on your course choice you’re after, our course advice centres and mini lectures will help you feel sure you’re choosing the course that is best for you. Our academics and current students will be on hand to answer specific queries on anything from selecting majors, to finalising preferences, and student life. Visit the course advice centres in the Great Hall and Maclaurin Hall in the Quadrangle to find out more.

If finalising your UAC preferences is worrying you, get yourself to the UAC – Understanding how preferences and offers work session and a faculty-specific talk to discover where your preferred course could take you. View the full list of mini lectures online and build your schedule at the Info Day Website.

If there is one piece of advice we can give, it is that keeping your dream course front of mind is absolutely the best thing you can do. Info Day can help you be sure of what that is and give you the confidence to put your dream course at Sydney as your first preference.

Our guaranteed ATAR courses take the guesswork out of finalising your preferences and help you make informed decisions about your studies. A guaranteed ATAR means you will be offered a place at Sydney if you achieve the guaranteed ATAR required for the course in question and put this course as your first preference. Keep in mind you may also have to meet other admission criteria where relevant, such as maths prerequisites.

From 2019 entry into some courses will require mathematics prerequisites. While we realise this is a big change, we want to better prepare our graduates for a future workforce requiring skills in STEM. If you do not meet the maths requirements for your course, there are other ways to get into your dream degree.

Not sure if your course has a guaranteed ATAR? Want to know your options when it comes to meeting the maths prerequisites? Visit us at the course advice centres for all the information you need.

We believe your university experience should be as unique as you are and the Sydney Undergraduate Experience is designed to enable you to achieve this. Our curriculum offers you unparalleled flexibility and opportunities to prepare you for an agile and dynamic future. We also hope that you enjoy your time with us along the way, and make the most of it.

Here are some takeaways for what’s on offer at Sydney:

  • broaden your skillset with online modules that can count for credit towards your study with our Open Learning Environment units. Design thinking, data, ethics – there are so many options to enhance your study.
  • learn beyond the classroom and beyond the books by working on real-world industry and community projects
  • prepare for a global career and travel while you study with exchange opportunities. Choose from 300 partner universities in 42 countries.

Don’t just take it from us. Come along to a mini lecture where our students will share their own experience with you. Take the opportunity to chat with them and our staff on the day. Explore the campus for yourself.

Don’t you wish you could look three, or even five years ahead to see how your degree has panned out? What could your time at Sydney look like? What could you achieve? Want to get a head start on planning your degree? From choosing units or deciding on a liberal, professional or specialist degree, to fitting in a second major or an overseas exchange, we understand students want more control over their future.
