Chaos Collective and New Resource have joined forces to present an immersive performance of improvised, ambient and electronic material at the Chau Chak Wing museum. Both ensembles have a fascination with the tactile nature of common objects that create sound - uncovering their hidden potential like 'sonic archaeologists'. This concert will include longform improvisations and sonic meditations using found objects, instruments and electronics performed in the visually and acoustically stunning museum.
After gaining international attention with a successful debut performance at Sydney’s Chau Chak Wing Museum in late 2022, emerging ensemble Chaos Collective are determined to be a force within Australia’s New Music scene. Founding members Isobel Archer (piano), Ben Lopes (composition, guitars) and Saskia Shearer (percussion) find solace in the weird and exciting world of modern instrumental performance treading the line between Classical, Electronic and Experimental.
Mentored by Ensemble Offspring founder Damien Ricketson, Chaos Collective morphs together electro-acoustic improvisations, new original compositions, and published chamber compositions. As the name suggests, the Ensemble holds the audience between states of chaos and calm in surround-sound performance settings eliminating the binary nature of the typical classical performance. Chaos Collective embarked on an international trip to perform at the Cortona Sessions for New Music in Tuscany, Italy in June 2023. The collective was also invited to perform at Dots and Loops Playback festival in Brisbane in late 2023.
New Resource is a digital art music collective by Sam Carrick and Dale Schlaphoff, combining the modern sounds of electronic ambient music with elements drawn from the post-classical genre to create conceptual and emotional sonic landscapes.
New Resource's output is dynamic and multitudinous: producing, composing and performing in shows with expansive multi-instrumental electro-acoustic signature works. Their work also includes studio releases, the production of work for theatre and dance, and collaborative projects with fellow artists of all practices.
