Undertaking a science PhD or masters by research at Sydney allows you to work with researchers at the forefront of their fields.

Our science research degrees involve in-depth study in a specialised area. This will require you to prepare a substantial piece of work that represents a significant contribution to a particular field of knowledge, giving you a good understanding of research methodology. You will also be required to complete coursework, from a range of postgraduate research units available.

Professional development

Your development as a researcher starts during orientation, which includes sessions on drafting literature reviews, preparing research proposals and presenting research developments.

Over 270+ coursework units of study are available to you throughout your candidature.

Opportunities are also available to grow professionally and academically through a paid 3-6 month internship with an industry partner as you complete your degree.

One of our strategic priorities is to invest in the resources and capabilities of our researchers to support outcomes that have a positive impact on society. As a Doctor of Philosophy (Science) student you will have the following support available:
