Your Bachelor of Music or Diploma of Music is your course (or degree). Your primary studies, for example, classical viola, or Contemporary Music, is your Principal Study or your Program area – the equivalent (musical) term of a ‘major’.
The requirements of your Principal Study contain different components that fit together to determine your entire enrolment plan, known as the ‘Standard Enrolment Pattern’. You should familiarise yourself with your enrolment pattern as it sets out the specific unit of study requirements you must fulfill throughout your candidature.
In this handbook, your enrolment pattern is located against the course you are undertaking. Select the course then click into your Principal Study Area to see your unique enrolment pattern.
It’s helpful to plan out your units each semester because it allows you to monitor your progress, which is an important part of making sure you’re successful in your course. Contact your Discipline Leader if you need further advice.
Honours is an embedded program of study pursued in the final year of your BMus degree or from the third year of your BMus Education degree. The enrolment pattern for Honours differs to the standard BMus and BMus Education pattern in that there is a reduced amount of principal study units and electives to complete, therefore, it is important to plan for Honours early in your degree, ideally before commencing year 3, so that you don’t exceed the number of units you take. Planning early will also allow you to ensure you achieve the marks required for Honours entry. In summary, you need:
BMus; BMus(Composition); BMus(Performance)
BMus(Music Education)
