What you’ll study

It will be based primarily at the Sydney Dental Hospital, with some sessions at the Nepean Centre for Oral Health.

The program is primarily clinical based with blocks of seminars and preclinical sessions.

You will also be required to complete a research project in the field of Endodontics or pulp biology, under the supervision of an academic staff member.

This course has a mandatory professional practice work component where subject to contract with the Local Health District (LHD), you may be paid for some clinical sessions (conditions apply), once enrolled in the course.

The program is directed by Associate Professor William Ha and presented by specialist clinicians and researchers.

As part of applying for this course you will need to include the following documentation with your application for admission.

  • submit an English Language Declaration Form. Please complete the following form and upload it to your application:  https://www.sydney.edu.au/content/dam/courses/medicine-and-health/sds-english-language-declaration-form.pdf.
  • a copy of current AHPRA Dental Registration certificate.
  • a criminal record check before you are considered for admissions and undertake a clinical placement in a NSW Department of Health Facility if admitted. Please refer to http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/careers/student_clearance/Pages/default.aspx  and https://sydney.edu.au/students/clinical-placement-checks/police-check.html for further information; For international candidates, you need to submit a Criminal Record Check from your own Country at the time of application.  If the document is issued in a language other than English, please provide the original together with an official English translation. 
  • current detailed Resumé outlining evidence of position as a Dentist employment history and relevant experience. 
  • contact details of two work related referees including their name, position, telephone and e-mail address.
  • a statement of intent explaining why you wish to undertake this course and the outcomes you hope to achieve.
  • portfolio in PDF format. The portfolio may be demonstration of cases or published academic work, or any other evidence that you believe will support your application.

Below is a standard list of documents that you will need to include with your application for admission. These documents are in addition to any specific documents/requirements (e.g. supplementary forms) which if applicable will be listed above.

  • Proof of identity: a valid passport (biodata page). Alternatively, an Australian birth certificate or Australian or New Zealand citizenship certificate for domestic students.
  • Current or final official academic transcripts and their official English translation copy if the original transcripts were issued in a language other than English. Currently enrolled University of Sydney students do not need to provide a copy of their transcript(s). Credit transcript(s) may be required if you were granted credit for studies previously undertaken.
  • Final testamur or proof of completion of your qualification and its official English translation copy if it was issued in a language other than English.
  • Proof of English proficiency (e.g. IELTS, TOEFL results) where required.
  • For courses with mandatory prerequisites, official detailed unit outlines for all prerequisite units in your studies which you believe will meet the prerequisite requirements.
