Major

About this major

The Visual Arts major taught at Sydney College of the Arts (SCA) will provide you with creative, conceptual and technical skills that can be applied across a wide range of disciplines. As the creative economy expands, skills in both digital and traditional processes, ways of thinking and communicating through image-based media have come to the fore. These are in demand across a range of industries including business, IT, design and telecommunications.

Through experimentation and research you will learn how to contextualize and develop concepts. You will realise your projects by applying skills, techniques, and material knowledge you have developed under the guidance of highly respected and knowledgeable artists and technicians.

Within the major you can elect to specialise in one of several studio areas. You will be encouraged to work across disciplinary boundaries in order to realise your ideas, while also given a grounding in the skills and history of your chosen specialism.

SCA provides you with generous access to well-equipped workshop and studio facilities in traditional and new media.

For more information on the program structure and content including unit of study information, please refer to the Interdisciplinary Studies Handbook.
