Chinese 2C (Advanced Beginners) - CHNS2001

Year - 2018

This is a fast-paced intermediate unit of study intended primarily for native and fluent background speakers of Chinese languages, including Cantonese, who know few (up to about 200) characters or none at all. The objective is rapid development of Chinese-language proficiency to equip students for advanced work in Chinese Studies. Emphases include reading and writing skills and standard Putonghua pronunciation.

1x1hr lecture/week, 3x1hr tutorial/week

Assessment
3x 250wds each written comprehension (20%), Participation (10%), 1x 10 minute oral presentation (20%), 3x 500wds each vocabulary quizzes (15%), 1x 1250wd reading/writing test (35%)

Pre-requisites

Native- or near-native fluency in a spoken Chinese language (e.g., Putonghua, Cantonese) combined with no, or very limited, knowledge of characters.

Prohibitions

CHNS1101 or CHNS1301 or CHNS1313 or CHNS1321; HSC Chinese Background Speakers.
