This unit is a study tour where students develop a startup idea from business challenge question to team pitch, and augment their understanding of starting a global business with an in-country experience in China. Students work on real-world problems facing organisations, governments and markets in China and businesses engaging with China. Students apply their business knowledge to understand, dissect, recommend and reflect on issues and challenges cognisant of the China business culture. Students gain design thinking and lean startup skills, new business networks, confidence to make business decisions and a body of work attractive to employers in China and Australia. Students are expected to apply cultural competence, research and collaborative skills as well as critical thinking in completing projects of strategic importance to the startup design and/or team-based project that they have chosen. This unit is presented in partnership with award-winning China innovation platform the China Australia Millennial Project (CAMP).
