Building on students' business knowledge and understanding, in this unit students will focus on using design methods, processes and tools to develop new business models and achieve business model innovation. Through the implementation of the business model canvas, prototyping, and value mapping, students will explore the role of design in business model innovation in specific industry contexts. In addition to design tools, students will use qualitative research methodologies coupled with understanding of key business concepts, including strategy, incremental to radical innovation processes and organisational change to challenge the established assumptions and status quo of an organisation's existing business model. Students will be expected to prototype and experiment new business models collaboratively and present them through visual forms, focussing on generating visual communication tools.
