Inclusive, International, Indigenous: Educating citizens of the world

Acknowledgement of Country. The Educational Innvation Team acknowledges the traditional owners of the land on which the various campuses of the University of Sydney stand - the Gadigal peoples of the Eora Nation; and the Deerubbin, Tharawal, Ngunnawal, Wiradjuri, Gamilaroi,Bundjulung, Wiljali and Gureng Gureng peoples.

The EI works with the University community to ensure that our teaching and learning practices contribute to an inclusive environment where all students can maximise the potential for their own learning and the learning of others. Our work connects particularly to three interrelated areas of University teaching and learning: internationalisation, Indigenisation and an overall inclusivity embracing the cultural diversities represented by all our students. We also link our work explicitly to the University's Graduate Attributes policy, for example in relation to Global Citizenship.

At the EI we aim to develop and support an inclusive teaching and learning community. In the era of globalisation and internationalisation we define that community in the broadest terms – Indigenous, local, national and international.

  • We acknowledge the special place of Indigenous knowledges and perspectives in our academic community.
  • We support the University in its goal of becoming an internationalised institution with global networks in the spheres of research, teaching and learning.
  • We work with staff to develop internationalised and intercultural curricula in response to the global and local diversity represented by both staff and students.
  • We value the rich cultural diversity of our student body and work to foster inclusive teaching and learning practices in relation to cultural difference.
  • We work to develop the attributes of citizens of the world among all our students so they may contribute fully to society as members of Indigenous, local, national and global communities.

Our work in this area is underpinned by individual, collaborative and institutional research.
