Presenters

Graham Hendry - Rubrics and Assessments

If assessments are learning journeys, then rubrics are the maps for the journey and your feedback is the compass. A rubric is both a resource that gives students an impression of, and you an elementary tool to measure, what you expect of students’ work or performance in an assessment task. A well-designed rubric can help to make marking consistent and enhance students’ learning.

Rebecca Denham - Rubrics in Canvas

Learn how to create, manage and use rubrics in Canvas' including or assignments, quizzes and graded discussions. Becky will provide some useful tips and tricks and discuss the benefits of using rubrics in Canvas and some limitations.

Martin Brown - Story Structure for Communication

Story structure has been shown to be an effective way to communicate complex information because it impacts the intellect, emotion and physiology of the audience. Students in first year Biology and third year Physiology have been using story structure to shape mini-documentary video projects. Awareness of story structure can help clarify many forms of communication from train announcements to lesson plans.
