Bill was previously Associate Professor of English and Director of Educational Innovation at Abilene Christian University (ACU) in Abilene, Texas. ACU was ground-breaking in the area of mobile learning. As the project lead, Rankin was named Campus Technology’s Innovator of the Year for mobile learning in 2008. In 2009, he was named an Apple Distinguished Educator and in 2010, he was one of Apple's ADE Board of Directors. With more than 20 years’ experience in higher education, Dr Rankin has received numerous awards for teaching and has presented on the implications of mobility and emerging educational technologies throughout the world. Rankin joined Apple Inc. this year as a Director of Learning, with responsibility for promoting and enhancing innovative teaching and learning. He is in Sydney briefly and this is a great opportunity to join an informal discussion of issues around the dynamic area of mobile learning, eBooks, and educational technology generally.
