Thesis title: Clinical utility of advanced analyses of physiological signals in the neonatal intensive care unit

Thesis abstract:

Data analysis and signal processing offers considerable potential in assisting caregivers in intensive care environments as well as low-middle income settings. Physiological data such as electrocardiogram-derived heart rate variability has been shown to assist in early indications of neonatal sepsis and intraventricular haemorrhage (Griffins et al. 2001, Tuzcu et al. 2009). Work in neonatal undernutrition and poor outcome has also shown the potential to develop models for morbidity screening and estimation of body fat as a gauge for nutritional status. This thesis focuses on the development of models and data analysis approaches for identifying these critical conditions or risks to assist in the monitoring and management of neonatal and infant health.
