Biographical details

Dr Rabiul Hasan is an experienced academic who has worked in universities in Australia and Malaysia for over 12 years. Dr Hasan has proven experience with community development and co-curricular programs in Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia. He brings global ideas and wider interdisciplinary practices in teaching, research and development, with a focus on finding and communicating solutions with strategic value. Dr Hasan joined the School of Computer Science at the University of Sydney in 2017. He was a recipient of the prestigious Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) and the International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) for his PhD.

Research interests

Dr Hasan’s research involves interdisciplinary aspects of Global Digital Health Technologies, Health Information Systems, Social Informatics, and Technological Innovation. He investigates Digital Health/eHealth, Health–IT Policy, Systems Strategy and Design, Social Media Technology, Medical Internet of Things, and Digital Transformation.

As part of his research, Dr Hasan examines what organisations are and should be doing to support digital health technologies application and digital transformation as well as exploring how they are embracing this change. He also investigates how organisations support and ensure interoperability and e-governance in digital health for improved health services coordination.

Being a licensed strategist, Dr Hasan advocates on (a) policy planning for sustainable digital governance in public services; (b) health policy inputs from systems and social connectivity viewpoints; and (c) complex integration aspects of strategies, systems and services to better support decision-making and performance. Furthermore, he has strong interest and experience in Complex Systems research including modelling how organisations as social elements connect to other organisations to collaborate and provide faster responses during emergencies and extreme events such as disease outbreaks, natural disasters and other types of humanitarian crises.
