Biographical details

Mr Holmes' passion for space started in 1969 when as a seven-year-old he watched Neil Armstrong land on the moon. In the early 1980s he pursued his passions by completing a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) and then a Bachelor of Science at the University of Sydney. He then took an unpaid internship with the British Aerospace Company over the summer of 1985, just to get closer to his dream of working in space. This launched his 30-year career in the European space industry as an Avionics Systems Engineer, helping to build 10 successful ESA spacecraft with 37 tons in orbit, cluminating in the Rosetta mission. With the mammoth Rosetta mission under his belt, Mr Holmes decided to head back home and joined the University of Sydney in February 2017.
