Welcome

Dean of the Sydney College of the Arts

Welcome to Sydney College of the Arts (SCA). You are now part of one of the world’s best universities and Australia’s most respected educator of contemporary artists. For almost 40 years SCA has been cultivating talent across specialised areas, encouraging experimentation and refining technique.

The success of SCA is linked to the success of our graduates. SCA graduates extend into far reaching creative fields nationally and internationally and have experienced highly successful careers in the visual arts, screen arts, design, education, arts administration and publishing.

Undertaking a degree at SCA provides the foundation for analytical thought and creative expression underpinned by academic rigour. The range of programs at undergraduate, masters and doctoral levels reflects the mission to provide a vibrant and conceptually coherent coverage of subjects relevant to international Contemporary Arts.

SCA boasts a stellar staff including professional artists and curators with established careers in the contemporary art world and respected writers with international research reputations. Students flourish under the guidance of these professionals. Learning directly from esteemed practitioners provides students with unparalleled opportunity for professional development.

As a unique campus of the University of Sydney, SCA offers expansive grounds, studios and workshop areas within the beautiful Callan Park, Rozelle. Since joining with the University of Sydney in 1990, SCA has leveraged the relationship with one of the world’s foremost research-intensive universities to build the quality and reputation of our degrees. The 2012 Excellence in Research Australia review confirmed the superiority of the research and learning environment provided at SCA with a maximum 5 rating.

We are adapting to the needs of our students, and from 2014 will be offering a new Bachelor of Visual Arts. Designed to be more flexible, the degree will provide the opportunity for easier moving between disciplines at SCA and to undertake electives across the University. As a University of Sydney student, you are welcome to take advantage of the full range of activities and facilities provided by one of Australia’s leading universities.

I encourage you to reach your full potential within a mutually engaging and supportive environment.
