Graduates of this Professional Certificate will have specialised knowledge in oncoplastic breast surgery.

Graduates will be able to:

  • Describe the types of implants available and the methods of determining size proportions and volume for an individual patient
  • Evaluate the range of available alternatives, and fundamentals of how lipodermal flaps, acellular dermal matrix (ADM) and other synthetic meshes may facilitate implant based reconstruction
  • Discuss the subtleties of selection of lipodermal flaps, ADMs or other meshes and the circumstances where each might be used
  • Describe the individual features and origins of the different ADMs and meshes that are commonly available in Australia and New Zealand
  • Appraise the surgical and multidisciplinary pressures that influence the options for immediate versus delayed breast reconstruction, considering the existing evidence and the challenges of conducting further high quality research in this area.
