Associate Professor Jillian Clarke

Dr Jillian Clarke is a Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Medical Radiation Sciences. She is an experienced academic whose PhD in Education investigated student assessment, learning at university and graduate transition into workplace practices. She is an experienced, accredited and qualified sonographer in General, Cardiac and Vascular ultrasound. Jill spent more than 10 years as program director of the postgraduate medical sonography course; teaches courses in all aspects of ultrasound at postgraduate level and introductory sonography to medical radiation science students; supervises sonography students in Masters and PhD research, and works with other researchers and research students to optimise their use of ultrasound in diverse settings. Jill has been closely involved with the profession, her efforts recognised by the Australian Sonographers Association through their Awards of Excellence in 2014, and voluntary contributions which include past Chair of the DMU Board of Examiners for the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine.

Just as ultrasound imaging has a multitude of applications across clinical practice and research, Jill enjoys a diverse range of sonography projects including sonographer role extension, broad issues around sonographer work health and safety, innovative research in various aspects of clinical ultrasound, and collaborative projects that include physiotherapy, speech therapy, exercise physiology and sport science. Jill’s current research students are involved in investigating the sonographer role in breaking bad news and sonographer injury prevention, and current collaborative projects include various muscle and tendon adaptations in the training of athletes. Her education research interests include the investigation of workplace learning practices, portfolio assessment and feedback in higher education.
