Discipline of Exercise and Sport Science

Enabling athletic performance and healthy ageing through exercise

We're educating practitioners to understand the effective management of athlete performance and chronic diseases through exercise and physical activity.

What is exercise and sport science?

Exercise and sport science focuses on the integration of exercise and physical activity into healthcare, sports performance, disease prevention and rehabilitation.

Our students explore metabolism and physiology, human motor learning and control, principles of exercise programming, nutrition and musculoskeletal principles of exercise.

We integrate clinical practice, practical learning and case studies to provide our students with the advanced skills and experience essential for professional practice.

Where can exercise and sport science take you?

Using principles such as biomechanics, musculoskeletal rehabilitation and gait analysis, our graduates work as exercise scientists or exercise physiologists in a variety of settings, including:

  • the sport, health and fitness industries
  • occupational health and safety
  • public health
  • rehabilitation
  • research and technology
  • education
  • medical insurance.
