For more than 50 years, International House has played a pivotal role in bridging the cultural divides of countless Australian and international students at the University of Sydney. Our building on 96 City Road has served as the residence for generations of International House students. Unfortunately, however, building has reached the end of its life and will need to be vacated by the end of 2020.
The Council of International House has arranged with the University to temporarily relocate our current residents to the student accommodation building in the Regiment site on City Road from Semester 1, 2021.
We will strive to ensure the transition to the new building takes place with as little disruption as possible, and we will keep residents informed as we confirm further details of the move.
Our mission of fostering international understanding and friendship by providing students of different nationalities and cultures with the opportunity to live and learn together will continue. While some logistical details are still being worked out, I assure our residents and alumni that our priority is to preserve International House’s exceptional community spirit as we move into the new building.
The move to the new residence is an interim solution while we continue to work with the University to assess all available options for the long-term future of International House. To date, no decision has been made regarding plans for the current site.
We will keep you updated with information on the IH website as it becomes available.
