Professor Julie Redfern

Julie Redfern AM is a Professor of Public Health, 2022 NSW Woman of Excellence and current holder of a NHMRC Investigator Grant Leadership 2 (NHMRC Elizabeth Blackburn Award for Health Services). She is also a Physiotherapist, Director of the Institute for Evidence-Based Helathcare at Bond University, a Member of the Board of the World Heart Federation and Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand Scientific Committee.

Professor Redfern has been a CI on research grants totalling $30M in the past 5 years and has published over 270 manuscripts and 4 book chapters. She has >15 years of experience developing, testing and implementing scalable strategies to close evidence-practice gaps and improve health outcomes for people with chronic disease. She also has expertise in multidisciplinary and translational research and is an advocate for effective secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease and her research interest is focused on improving clinical practice and reduction of risk factors ultimately in people with a range of chronic diseases.

Professor Redfern is currently CIA of the NHMRC Synergy Grant (SOLVE-CHD). She is Co-Chair of the Clinical and Preventative Cardiology Council of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand and part of the team that won the 2016 Australian Google Impact Challenge.

Professor Redfern won the 2022 NSW Woman of Excellence, 2022 Australian Cardiovascular Alliance Mentor Award, a University of Sydney Vice Chancellor's Award for Leadership and Mentoring in 2021, has been a NSW Tall Poppy and winner of CSANZ and ACRA researcher awards.She was also the 2022 NSW Surf Life Saving Volunteer of the year.
