I study pharmacy and management: Sunny Manon

5 minutes with an undergraduate pharmacy and management student
Meet Sunny, a Bachelor of Pharmacy and Management student. Find out why she chose to study pharmacy and management and what it is like to be a student at the University of Sydney.

Why did you choose to study pharmacy and management?

I love that the healthcare industry allows for a hands-on approach by managing and helping people. I was able to do some work experience in pharmacy and was able to see the important role that management plays in healthcare, since then I have always wanted to pursue it as a career.

Did you apply for any other programs?

My other preference was a Bachelor of Pharmacy. Getting the combined degree of the Bachelor of Pharmacy and Management was just a plus.

What subjects did you do for your HSC?

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • PDHPE
  • English (advanced and extension)
  • Mathematics (standard)

What's your favourite unit of study at the moment?

Social Pharmacy takes it out for sure.

What does your typical day at uni look like?

No day is the same. Some days we are in the lab and others are spent in the classroom. Grabbing a coffee with friends between classes is always good too.

What surprised you most about this degree?

How well the pharmacy and management subjects go hand in hand. With such an active and social faculty and student body, I was also surprised about how many opportunities there were to participate outside the classroom.

How does university compare to high school?

There's so much more independence at uni. It's the best!

What are your classmates like?

Honestly, they're all legends.

What are your lecturers like?

Any time I've ever had a question they have been so helpful and really go above and beyond for us all.

Have you been involved in anything outside the classroom?

I'm going on a hospital pharmacy placement in Nepal early next year for 2 weeks. Getting involved with the social events and weekly sport the faculty offers is also great fun!

What are your future career plans?

I would love to be a Directing Manager in a hospital pharmacy and hopefully manage my own pharmacy one day.

Any advice for someone who is thinking about applying for this degree?

Seriously, just go for it. You won't regret it. There are so many pathways with the degree and time on campus is some of the best days of your life.
