About us
Meet our health experts
,
The Leeder Centre for Health Policy, Economics and Data conducts health policy research, education, analysis and advice to improve health outcomes through the practical implementation of policy innovations.
Established in 1999, we work collaboratively with local, national and international partners to improve equity, effectiveness and efficiency of health systems.
Our research demonstrates a strong commitment to patient-centred outcomes. Consumers are at the centre of our research and we employ co-design to ensure that it is consistent with their values and priorities.
Our community engagement program informs debate and delivers the evidence to empower consumers, providers and governments to deliver safe, effective, high-quality health care that is sustainable while our education offerings provide a critical perspective on how health systems operate and the forces that shape health and society more broadly.
The Leeder Centre for Health Policy, Economics and Data is named to honour the remarkable career and contributions of Emeritus Professor Stephen Leeder AO to health policy and health systems worldwide.
Professor Leeder was Dean of the Faculty of Medicine between 1996-2002. During this time, he led a new medical education program and expanded rural education for students.
A founding Director of the Centre, he established its strong research program in chronic disease policy and a master’s program in health policy – now known as the School of Public Health’s Master of Health Policy and Planning.
The Centre was launched on on 3 December 2024. We invite you to read Professor Andrew Wilson AO’s address and Emeritus Professor Stephen Leeder AO’s response from the event.
