This 3-day event offers a full program of inspiring presentations, and career-boosting sessions especially for early and mid-career researchers (EMCR). Enjoy networking opportunities and social functions at each location, to connect with your colleagues and make new contacts. Sessions will have a specific EMCR focus with topics including:
The FMH Networks will each host a research showcase session highlighting current projects and collaborations in their related disciplines and fields, and there is a special HDR Student Session at each location.

Hear from the FMH Research Office about various grant schemes and the services and supports available to EMCRs applying. The session will also include a panel discussion with researchers who have had grant success. They will share their tips and tricks for grant writing and reflect on their overall experiences, including pitfalls to avoid, what reviewers look for, tips on dealing with rejection, and balancing competing priorities.

This session is focused on the strategic decisions about leadership to boost career trajectory for EMCRs. Presenters will share their experiences and discuss ideas about engaging with media and social media to demonstrate impact and increase visibility of research online. This session includes Q&A and a panel discussion about leadership, how leadership might look different for different types of researchers, and the valuable place of leadership roles in boosting a researcher’s visibility.

Come along to this introduction to implementation science and the key concepts EMCRs need to know to apply it in your research. Learn about when it makes sense to apply implementation science methods in a research project, and some of the key frameworks used by implementation scientists to undertake robust research. The session will also feature case studies of how implementation science has been applied in practice.

Don’t miss this session all about how EMCRs can plan for and demonstrate research impact. Presenters will reflect on their own experiences planning for impact including knowledge, policy, and social impact. They will share practical tips on when and how planning decisions need to be made and how you obtain evidence of impact useful for grant applications. Participate in Q&A and find out what has worked well for demonstrating impact and what has been less successful for others.

Don’t miss this 45-minute session packed full of useful information on engaging with industry as a researcher through the lifespan of a project. Our panel will share tips and tricks for avoiding pitfalls and implementing strategies that can lead to successful collaboration and partnerships. Learn about why Industry wants to partner with researchers and vice versa. Get some practical tips about making the initial approach and pitching an idea, as well as how to spot some common challenges in partnering with industry and how to avoid them.
