This course is both clinical and theoretical with chair-side sessions, lectures and seminars. The clinical component of the course takes place within the Orthodontic Clinic of the Sydney Dental Hospital and involves treating NSW Local Health District patients. These sessions will provide practical instruction and experience in the placement and adjustment of orthodontic appliances. New patients with mainly Class 1 mild crowding malocclusions will be assessed, diagnosed and treated. The participants will also manage patients in different stages of orthodontic treatment, who have already started treatment from previous years.
There is a requirement that registrants participate in seminars on patient management, theoretical presentations and journal reviews. The participants will be given the option to present their own cases will a full set of diagnostic records at the end of the morning sessions according to time availability and expression of interest. It is the intention of the course to present all participants with a broad range of orthodontic problems and management options. However, the cases the participants will treat in the clinic will mainly be simple malocclusion cases.
