Student profile: Occupational therapy

Meet Gigi Chung Chi Leung

We caught up with occupational therapy student Gigi, to find out why she chose her degree and what it's like studying at the University of Sydney.

Why did you choose Occupational Therapy?

I’ve always loved kids and wanted to be a teacher. During high school, I got really interested in science and really want to be in the medical field, so I thought paedeatric occupational therapy would be the perfect blend for my personality!

It is a career that bridges education with medicine; a profession that could teach and educate others about the body as well as how to achieve health and wellness.

What does a typical day at uni look like for you?

Attending lectures and tutorials with a bag of gummies. Then lunch with my crew after that!

What has surprised you most about your degree?

Occupational therapy offers so much more than I’ve imagined. Not only do we deal with patients’ physical needs, but also people’s psychological and emotional well-being. Occupational therapists contribute greatly to society and bring enormous self-fulfillment.

What do you like most about studying at Usyd?

The resources and support provided.

What advice would you give other students just starting out?

Find your passion and it will guide you to the right path.
