Associate Professor Muh Geot Wong

Since I was awarded my PhD in 2011, I have worked as a part time clinician researcher at the Kolling Institute and at the George Institute. My main area of research is in understanding the pathomechanisms of kidney tubulointerstitial fibrosis, strategy in delaying CKD progression, and biomarkers in predicting progressive kidney disease especially in diabetic kidney disease and IgA nephropathy.I am the current Head of the Renal Clinical trial unit at the Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH), and an active member of the a member of the Kolling Research Executive Committee for the Northern Sydney Lower Health District, which oversees the strategic development and operational effectiveness of the Clinical based research across the Area Health. I am part of the CARI guideline write-up group for Screening for infections in haemodialysis, and a member of the Scientific Program and Education Committee (SPEC) for the Australian New Zealand Society of Nephrology since 2015. I received several Young Investigator Awards and Early Career Awards at national and regional level in the past few years including the Young Investigator Awards at the Asia Pacific Congress of Nephrology, Tokyo in 2014.I successfully co-supervised two Master students and currently co-supervising two PhD students.

My area of interest is inkidney tubulointerstitial fibrosis, strategy in delaying CKD progression, biomarkers reserach for CKD, randomised controlled clinical trials, and translational research.

I supervise, train and examine medical students, basic physician trainees and advanced renal trainee at the Northern Clinical School. During the three years tenure as the Director of Physician Training of the Royal North Shore Hospital, forty five basic physician trainees were successful in the written and clinical Fellowship examination, with more than 95% of these trainees securing further specialty training positions. I successfully co-supervised two Master students and currently co-supervising two PhD students. Within my capacity as the Head of Renal Clinical Trial Unit, I lead a team of three Clinical Research Coordinators , and manage the daily operation, budget and contract negotiation of several clinical trials.
