An Afternoon in Aleppo

Saturday 23 November: Discover Aleppo’s resilience and heritage through a docudrama depicting the courageous efforts to save the city’s museum treasures amid the Syrian Civil War.

Aleppo is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. Despite the devastation caused by the Syrian Civil War, its cultural and historical significance remains undiminished. This event celebrates the city’s rich heritage and those dedicated to its survival.

We will explore historic Aleppo in this afternoon of reflection on the historic city so badly damaged during the Syrian Civil War. Join us for a screening of the docudrama film The Oath of Cyriac and a display of images taken by photographer Steve Ezzedine of the city of Aleppo during the conflict.

About the film

The Oath of Cyriac is an award-winning docudrama film directed by Olivier Bourgeois and released in 2021. It tells the story of the struggle of a small group of archaeologists, museum curators and attendants as they attempt to save the collections of the Museum of Aleppo during the Syrian conflict.

The film will run for 1 hour and 13 minutes.
