The Macquarie University History Museum is the latest addition to Sydney's rich cultural landscape. Covering objects from over 5,000 years and from five continents, the new and purpose-built museum testifies to the University's long-standing interest in material culture from the ancient world and modern Australian History.
Join Professor Martin Bommas as he discusses the vision, philosophy and collection practice of the new museum and how it interacts with the public in addition to being a 'campus museum'.
The talk will include an introduction to their first temporary exhibition East meets West: The Crusade Wars and the Age of Decolonisation.
Professor Martin Bommas is the Director of the Macquarie University History Museum. As an Egyptologist he has taught at Universities in Germany, Switzerland, the UK and Italy. In 2016–17 he was appointed Research Fellow at the Getty Centre in Los Angeles, CA. For more than 30 years, he has excavated in the area of Aswan, Upper Egypt. His latest publications include 100 Treasures/ 100 Emotions.
