Get a taste of uni life and kick-start your semester with some essential preparations at Welcome Week from 18 to 22 February 2019.
Welcome Week is your opportunity to familiarise yourself with university, attend your faculty or school welcome, take advantage of an information session, meet fellow new students and get ready for the semester ahead. Oh, and you can also get into all the fun of the USU's Welcome Festival.
Create your personalised schedule on the Welcome Week website:
Make sure you attend your faculty or school welcome where you’ll get to meet fellow students and academic staff and learn everything you need to know about your faculty or school, such as where particular buildings are located and key dates. We also host student welcomes relevant to particular cohorts, such as students with a disability, international students, mature-age students and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
During Orientation Week you should also take advantage of our information sessions and workshops that will help you to hit the ground running when classes begin. There are more than 40 to choose from covering all aspects of university life including learning strategies and academic skills to advice on careers, accommodation and budgeting. If you’re a postgrad or international student, check out the additional events we also host for you.
Orientation Week is also a good chance to familiarise yourself with our main campus, and considering it’s big enough to have its own postcode (it’s 2006, in case you were wondering!), it can be handy to know your bearings before you arrive for your first lecture. Pop into our new Student Centre where you can get help with administrative matters such as student cards, timetables, fees and examinations. You’ll find it on Level 3, Jane Foss Russell Building on the Darlington side of our main campus.
Don’t forget to log into our Wi-Fi network for free unlimited access on campus using your Unikey and password.
The University of Sydney Union’s Welcome Festival (20 – 22 February 2019) is where you can join clubs and societies, make friends and enjoy a three-day program of activities and entertainment.
Don’t forget to add your faculty welcome, and the info sessions and events you want to attend to your Welcome Week planner.
Don’t be afraid to ask. Feel free to approach your fellow students or our friendly staff wearing ‘Ask me’ badges and ask about anything you can’t find or figure out during Welcome Week.
