This project involves an extensive evaluation of the research outputs and impact of the research project component of the Doctor of Medicine degree.
Sydney Medical School - Generic
The University of Sydney Doctor of Medicine Degree commenced in 2014 and we have data from all cohorts of students that undertook this mandatory research project. This data includes the project reports, student, and supervisor details, including admission and academic records that can be analysed for trends in research outputs from the projects undertaken. Subsequent publications are in the peer-reviewed literature. Further investigation, via an Alumni survey and search of public records will seek to understand the longitudinal impact of including the research component in the MD Program. This project will involve review of academic publications and extraction of publication data. A statistical analysis of the factors that predict research outputs will be undertaken. Further, there will be a design and development of a survey to assess alumni research activity. The goal is to investigate the research outputs and the factors that improve publication or retention in a research active role, following graduation The outcome will inform future medical program curriculum design and initiatives to encourage research activity in medical graduates.
