Nonlinear integrated photonics

Summary

Professor Benjamin Eggleton's breakthroughs in nonlinear optics of chalcogenide glasses have let to his deomonstations of new ultrafast optical devices for telecommunications applications, record low-threshold supercontinium generation sources and on-chip parametric sources.

The supervisory team for this project also includes Dr Alvaro Casas Bedoya.

Supervisor

Professor Benjamin Eggleton.

Research location

School of Physics

Program type

Masters/PHD

Synopsis

Professor Eggleton's group reported the first demonstration of on-chip stimulaated Brillouin scattering, and holds the recod for on-chip SBS again.  His fundamental breakthroughs include the first demonstations of gap soliton formation in periodic media and of slow-light-enhanced nonlinear optics in photonic crystals.

Additional information

The student will be located in the Sydney Nanoscience Hub for the duration of this project.
