About Dr Markus Hofer

The focus of my research are the molecular mechanisms behind the actions of cytokines in the central nervous system. I am particularly interested how type I interferons and interleukin-6 contribute to neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative diseases in the brain. For this, my laboratory uses a number of different in vivo and in vitro models for viral encephalitis, autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases.
