Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) and responses to pain

Healthy adult (18 years or older) volunteers are wanted to take part in a research study investigating psychophysiological responses to treatments for pain, including pain sensitivity, skin conductance, and heart rate. You may be allocated to receive either an oral treatment (capsule), a nasal treatment (nasal spray), or transcutaneous electrical stimulation (electrodes attached to the skin). Pain sensitivity will be assessed at a level set by you.

The study involves a single 1hr session and you will be reimbursed for the costs associated with participating.

The study is being conducted in the School of Psychology, University of Sydney.

Human Research Ethics Committee approval number 2012/1968

You may be eligible to participate in this study if you:

  • Are a healthy adult 18 years or older
